Honeycomb

Standard

I love this manicure. I love these little glitter pieces (so called glequins). Often, when I’m trying to decried what to do on my nails I stare longingly at my little pots of glitter – but glitter takes a while, and you have to be careful with placement.

20130209-115823.jpg I had such a hard time photographing this because the glitter is soon shiny! And also because I used so much topcoat – soooo reflective! I started with 3 coats (er… Actually maybe it was 2, I can’t remember) of Essie Midnight Cami, a gorgeous blue so dark it is almost black. Then, one nail at a time, I applied topcoat and used a toothpick to place the individual glequins. I sealed the whole thing off with a few more coats of topcoat – those suckers weren’t goin anywhere!

20130209-120128.jpg I love how the glitters line up to make a honeycomb kind of look! I think I need some more practice placing the pieces evenly – I swear I was coss-eyed by the time I was done!

I also thought it would be fun to have the bands of glitter be different width, making different sized stripes of flashy gold. I think this turned out very prettily, even kind of classy! But still really fun.
